Homeland

U.S. Income Tax Director
Accounting & Finance
Remote Direct Hire Sep 21, 2026
Job Summary
Homeland Talent Solutions is partnering with a growing, technology-enabled accounting and tax services organization to identify a U.S. Income Tax Director. This fully remote opportunity is ideal for an experienced CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) with a strong background in individual and business taxation who also thrives in a client-facing, advisory environment.

The U.S. Income Tax Director will work directly with business owners and clients to provide proactive tax guidance, explain complex tax matters in practical terms, and serve as a trusted resource for strategic tax planning and compliance. Rather than spending the majority of the day preparing tax returns, this role focuses on client advisory, technical review, and oversight within an established, highly streamlined tax operation.

The organization is open to an experienced U.S. Income Tax Director, as well as a strong Tax Manager or Senior Tax Manager who is ready to take the next step in their career and expand their impact in a leadership and advisory-focused role.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a primary client-facing US tax advisor, building trusted relationships with small-business owners and franchise operators
  • Lead client tax meetings via Zoom and telephone, providing clear, confident, and consultative guidance
  • Provide proactive, year-round tax planning and advisory support based on each client’s individual and business tax needs
  • Advise clients on individual and US business taxation, including Forms 1040, 1065, 1120S, and 1120
  • Review individual and business tax returns and provide final-level technical oversight as appropriate
  • Explain tax returns, planning opportunities, and tax considerations in a practical, easy-to-understand manner
  • Serve as a tax subject-matter expert and partner with internal Account Management and tax teams on client questions and needs
  • Represent clients before the IRS and state taxing authorities, including responding to notices and managing matters requiring Power of Attorney
  • Provide technical guidance on complex or unusual tax matters while leveraging established processes for routine tax work
  • Collaborate with an experienced US-based tax team and established offshore delivery resources to support efficient client service
  • Take on additional leadership and operational responsibilities over time based on experience, strengths, and organizational needs

Requirements
  • Active CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) credential required
  • Approximately 8+ years of progressive US income tax experience preferred; overall experience and qualifications will be considered
  • Strong experience with both individual and small-business taxation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Forms 1040, 1065, 1120S, and 1120
  • Strong background in tax planning, compliance, and proactive client advisory
  • Experience communicating with the IRS and/or state taxing authorities, including responding to client tax notices
  • Ability to confidently review tax returns, identify issues, and provide technical guidance without personally preparing a high volume of returns
  • Experience working with closely held businesses, small-business owners, partnerships, S corporations, and/or C corporations
  • Public accounting experience strongly preferred, particularly within a local, regional, or national CPA firm
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with a polished, professional presence in Zoom and telephone client interactions
  • Ability to explain complex tax concepts and recommendations to business owners in a clear, approachable, and practical manner
  • Collaborative, relationship-oriented approach with the ability to work effectively with internal tax, Account Management, and delivery teams

Additional Information
This position is 100% remote within the United States. Eastern and Central time zones are strongly preferred. Mountain and Pacific time-zone candidates may be considered if comfortable aligning their schedule with Eastern/Central business hours.

Benefits
This role offers a base salary of $150,000–$180,000, depending on experience and level, with additional variable compensation anticipated. The title and level may be adjusted based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Summary
Bring your tax expertise to a role where you can make a meaningful impact through client advisory, tax strategy, and leadership. If you’re ready to move beyond return preparation and play a key role in guiding business owners and shaping client solutions, we encourage you to apply today!
