Job Summary Homeland has partnered with a leading multi-hospital health system to identify an accomplished Vice President of Clinical Informatics to provide enterprise leadership across clinical informatics strategy, transformation, optimization, and operations. This highly visible executive will serve as a critical bridge between clinical care, technology, operations, and enterprise strategy, partnering closely with executive leadership, physicians, nursing, clinical operations, and technology teams to ensure clinical technology investments improve workflows, clinician experience, patient care, and organizational performance.
The Vice President of Clinical Informatics will lead a large, multi-layered clinical informatics organization supporting acute, ambulatory, nursing, and ancillary clinical environments. The successful candidate will bring significant leadership experience within a complex, multi-facility hospital or health system and a demonstrated ability to lead large teams, enterprise clinical technology initiatives, EHR optimization, and organizational change.
This opportunity is well suited for an experienced clinical informatics executive who has operated at meaningful organizational scale and is prepared to lead both the strategic direction and execution of clinical technology initiatives across a large healthcare enterprise.
Responsibilities
Provide enterprise leadership for clinical informatics strategy across multiple hospitals, facilities, and venues of care
Lead, develop, and optimize a large clinical informatics organization, including multiple layers of leadership and specialized clinical informatics professionals
Establish the strategic direction and roadmap for clinical informatics capabilities based on immediate, short-term, and long-term organizational priorities
Partner closely with executive leadership, physicians, nursing, clinical operations, IT, and other stakeholders to align clinical technology initiatives with broader health-system objectives
Drive standardization, quality, performance, adoption, and optimization of clinical informatics solutions across the enterprise
Lead major enterprise clinical information system implementations, integrations, migrations, optimization efforts, and transformation initiatives
Advance EHR optimization and clinician experience across acute, ambulatory, nursing, and ancillary environments
Evaluate and help advance emerging technologies, including AI-enabled and AI-assisted clinical workflows, automation, and other innovations capable of improving care delivery
Provide executive leadership for clinical workflow transformation and ensure technology supports efficient, effective, and patient-centered care
Develop and execute enterprise data governance strategies in partnership with clinical, operational, and technology leadership
Oversee clinical informatics education, technology adoption, optimization, and sustainment programs, including the development of measurable performance and success metrics
Develop and lead organizational change-management strategies designed to improve clinician engagement and adoption of new technologies, workflows, and processes
Provide executive oversight for high-impact programs and initiatives to ensure successful delivery against scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk expectations
Partner with physician and nursing leadership to identify clinical technology opportunities, address workflow challenges, and improve the overall clinician experience
Develop and manage annual operating and long-term capital budgets for areas of responsibility
Ensure appropriate security, privacy, HIPAA, regulatory, contractual, compliance, and integration standards across clinical informatics solutions
Support enterprise growth, system integrations, acquisitions, and organizational transformation initiatives as needed
Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing clinical informatics leaders and team members
Establish a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, innovation, and service excellence
Serve as a visible executive change agent capable of building credibility and influencing stakeholders throughout a complex healthcare organization
Requirements
Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience required
Minimum of 10+ years of progressive healthcare technology, clinical informatics, clinical information systems, or closely related healthcare experience
Minimum of 7 years of multi-facility healthcare/hospital clinical information systems management experience
Minimum of 5+ years of senior leadership experience within clinical informatics, clinical applications, healthcare technology, or a closely related function
Demonstrated experience leading large clinical informatics or clinical technology organizations, ideally with responsibility for 50+ employees
Experience leading through multiple layers of management, including directors, managers, and senior clinical/informatics professionals
Significant leadership experience within a large, multi-hospital or multi-facility health system
Demonstrated experience leading clinical informatics strategy and operations across complex clinical environments
Strong experience with acute-care clinical informatics and clinical workflows
Proven experience leading major EHR implementations, migrations, optimization programs, clinical workflow transformations, or enterprise clinical technology initiatives
Demonstrated ability to lead significant organizational change, technology adoption, and clinical transformation across multiple facilities and stakeholder populations
Experience partnering directly with C-suite executives, physicians, nursing leadership, clinical operations, and enterprise technology teams
Strong understanding of clinical workflows, healthcare operations, data governance, privacy, security, regulatory requirements, and healthcare technology
Experience developing and managing significant operating and capital budgets and prioritizing technology investments across a complex organization
Strong executive presence with demonstrated strategic thinking, critical thinking, communication, negotiation, relationship-building, and organizational leadership capabilities
Ability to translate complex clinical and technical concepts into actionable business and operational strategies
Ability and willingness to work onsite in Knoxville, Tennessee
Preferred Qualifications
Current or previous Vice President, Assistant/Associate Vice President, Senior Director, or comparable enterprise clinical informatics leadership experience within a large health system
Experience leading a clinical informatics or clinical technology organization of 50–100+ professionals strongly preferred
Experience supporting a health system with multiple hospitals and a significant ambulatory footprint
Significant ambulatory informatics experience in addition to acute-care experience
Prior clinical background as an RN, physician, pharmacist, or other licensed healthcare professional is highly desirable
Experience leading enterprise AI-enabled clinical workflows, clinical decision support, automation, or emerging healthcare technology initiatives
Experience supporting mergers and acquisitions, hospital integrations, enterprise system standardization, geographic expansion, or other large-scale transformation initiatives
Demonstrated success translating clinical technology investments into measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, clinician experience, patient experience, technology adoption, quality, clinical outcomes, or operational performance
