Job Summary Homeland has partnered with an established financial institution to hire a Technical Systems Specialist – Financial Services for a 6-month / 1,040-hour contract-to-hire opportunity in Birmingham, AL.
This position is 100% onsite, Monday through Friday and is ideal for a hands-on technology professional who enjoys troubleshooting systems, working with SQL and data, building reports, improving processes, and solving business problems through technology.
The Technical Systems Specialist will work across SQL/SSRS reporting, application support, systems troubleshooting, data movement, process automation, integrations, and business systems support. We are seeking a versatile technical professional who enjoys wearing multiple hats rather than operating within one narrowly defined technology specialty.
Experience within banking, mortgage, lending, servicing, or financial services is highly preferred. Experience with Encompass or another Loan Origination System (LOS) is a plus but is not required for someone with strong technical aptitude and the ability to learn new systems.
Responsibilities
Provide hands-on technical and application support for business-critical systems
Write, modify, and troubleshoot SQL queries for reporting, data extraction, and operational needs
Create, maintain, modify, schedule, and distribute SSRS reports
Troubleshoot system and application issues and take ownership through resolution
Monitor applications, scheduled jobs, files, and recurring technical processes
Work directly with business stakeholders to understand needs and translate requirements into technical solutions
Support data extraction, data movement, file processing, scheduled jobs, and system workflows
Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve existing workflows
Support integrations between internal systems and third-party applications
Assist with the support and maintenance of banking, mortgage, and lending technology
Support Encompass or other Loan Origination Systems as needed
Partner with internal teams and external technology vendors on troubleshooting and system enhancements
Maintain technical documentation and communicate effectively across technical and non-technical teams
Requirements
3+ years of professional experience in Systems Analysis, Application Support, Business Systems, Systems Administration, Technical Support, Reporting/Data, Financial Systems, or a related technology function
Hands-on SQL experience, including writing and modifying queries
Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) or comparable enterprise reporting tools strongly preferred
Experience troubleshooting business applications, systems, or production technology environments
Understanding of reporting, data movement, integrations, system workflows, scheduled jobs, and/or process automation
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work directly with business users and translate their needs into technical solutions
Experience within banking, mortgage, lending, servicing, or financial services highly preferred
Experience with Encompass, ICE Mortgage Technology, mortgage technology, or another Loan Origination System (LOS) is a plus but not required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Business, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered
Additional Information This is a 6-month / 1,040-hour contract-to-hire opportunity with the potential to convert to a permanent position based on performance and long-term fit. The position is 100% onsite, five days per week in Birmingham, AL. Candidates must be within a reasonable commuting distance and comfortable working onsite Monday through Friday.
Benefits This position offers an hourly rate of $45-$55, based on experience The anticipated permanent conversion salary is approximately $100,000–$110,000, depending on experience, performance, and overall long-term fit.
