The Director of Equipment Engineering will provide strategic leadership for all manufacturing equipment supporting aseptic pharmaceutical operations, including sterile filling, lyophilization, inspection systems, packaging equipment, utilities, and facility infrastructure. Reporting to the Senior Director of Engineering & Maintenance, this leader will oversee the complete equipment lifecycle, drive equipment reliability, lead capital projects, support new product introductions, and ensure GMP compliance across the site.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for all equipment engineering activities supporting aseptic pharmaceutical manufacturing operations
  • Develop and execute engineering strategies that improve equipment reliability, asset performance, uptime, and lifecycle management
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Maintenance, Quality, Validation, Facilities, and Operations to support production goals and continuous improvement
  • Lead capital projects from concept through startup, including equipment design, procurement, installation, commissioning, qualification, and validation support
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, resources, contractors, and vendor performance to ensure successful project execution
  • Provide technical oversight for sterile filling equipment, lyophilization systems, isolators, cleanroom equipment, packaging and inspection systems, manufacturing utilities, and facility infrastructure
  • Ensure equipment is reliable, maintainable, compliant with cGMP requirements, and designed to support long-term operational success
  • Serve as the site's engineering subject matter expert during FDA inspections, customer audits, and other regulatory inspections
  • Oversee engineering documentation, change controls, deviations, investigations, CAPAs, commissioning activities, and validation readiness while ensuring compliance with FDA, EU GMP Annex 1, and global cGMP standards
  • Partner with Validation and Quality teams to support equipment startup, commissioning, IQ/OQ/PQ execution, and successful implementation of new equipment
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Build strong relationships with equipment vendors and engineering contractors to ensure high-quality project execution and long-term operational excellence

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Engineering Leadership, MBA, or a related field, preferred
  • 12+ years of engineering experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other GMP-regulated manufacturing environments
  • 5+ years of experience leading and developing engineering teams
  • Extensive experience supporting aseptic or sterile pharmaceutical manufacturing operations
  • Strong knowledge of equipment lifecycle management, reliability engineering, and asset performance
  • Hands-on experience with commissioning, qualification, and validation (IQ/OQ/PQ)
  • Proven success leading complex capital engineering projects from planning through implementation
  • In-depth knowledge of cGMP regulations, FDA requirements, and pharmaceutical quality standards
  • Experience supporting FDA inspections, customer audits, and regulatory compliance activities
  • Excellent leadership, communication, project management, and problem-solving skills
  • PMP, ISPE, or other relevant professional certifications, preferred
  • Experience supporting sterile injectable manufacturing, preferred
  • Expertise with aseptic filling, lyophilization, cleanroom systems, pharmaceutical utilities, and related manufacturing equipment, preferred

The Director of Equipment Engineering will receive a base salary ranging from $170,100 to $272,000, along with the opportunity to earn a 20% annual performance bonus.
