Job Summary
Homeland Talent Solutions is partnering with a leading regional healthcare organization to hire an experienced Director of Surgical Services. The ideal candidate enjoys balancing clinical leadership with strategic business operations while maintaining a strong presence within the department and fostering relationships with surgeons, staff, and executive leadership. The Director of Surgical Services provides operational, financial, and strategic oversight for a comprehensive perioperative service line that includes a 15-room Main Operating Room with two dedicated Open Heart suites, a 4-room Ambulatory Surgery Center, Pre-Admission Testing, Same Day Surgery, PACU, and Central Sterile Processing.

The department performs approximately 18 to 34 surgical procedures each day across multiple specialties, including general surgery, orthopedics, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, pediatrics, and more. Leading approximately 130 employees through multiple department managers, the Director partners closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing leadership, and executive administration to deliver exceptional patient care, optimize operational efficiency, enhance physician satisfaction, and achieve strong financial performance.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic, operational, and financial leadership for all perioperative services, including the Main OR, Ambulatory Surgery Center, Pre-Admission Testing, Same Day Surgery, PACU, and Central Sterile Processing
  • Drive operational excellence by optimizing productivity, staffing models, call coverage, and resource utilization
  • Partner with physicians, nursing leaders, and executive leadership to enhance collaboration, physician satisfaction, and surgical program growth
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, patient safety standards, infection prevention protocols, and clinical best practices
  • Mentor and develop department leaders while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
  • Lead process improvement initiatives, standardize clinical workflows, and implement new technologies and operational systems
  • Oversee contracts, vendor relationships, equipment utilization, and supply management to improve efficiency and control costs
  • Support capital projects, including Central Sterile modernization and implementation of a surgical instrument tracking system
  • Identify opportunities to expand surgical volume, strengthen physician partnerships, and improve financial performance
  • Maintain a visible leadership presence while delivering exceptional patient care, operational performance, and long-term departmental success

Requirements
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required; Master's degree preferred
  • 5+ years of leadership experience as a Director of Surgical Services, Operating Room Director, or in a similar perioperative leadership role
  • Proven experience leading large perioperative departments within an acute care hospital
  • Strong knowledge of staffing optimization, productivity management, scheduling, and call coverage models
  • Experience managing departmental budgets, contracts, capital planning, and operational performance
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with physicians, executive leadership, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills with a collaborative and accountable management style

Additional Information
This is a full-time, onsite leadership role requiring a visible presence throughout the department, active engagement with staff and physicians, and participation in daily leadership huddles to support ongoing operations.

Benefits
This full-time leadership opportunity offers a competitive base salary of up to $155,000 annually, plus a sign-on bonus, relocation assistance for qualified candidates, and the opportunity to earn an annual performance bonus of up to 10%.
