Job Summary Homeland has partnered with an esteemed and dynamic healthcare system to hire a dependable and team-oriented Medical Lab Technician (MLT) for a full-time night shift opportunity within a busy acute care hospital laboratory in Hickory, NC.
This Medical Lab Technician (MLT) position is ideal for a laboratory professional who thrives in a collaborative hospital environment and is confident working independently during overnight operations. The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) will support quality patient care through accurate testing, timely reporting, and strong communication with laboratory and clinical teams.
The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) will perform routine and moderately complex laboratory testing to assist in patient diagnosis and treatment within a fast-paced acute care setting. This Medical Lab Technician (MLT) role functions in a true generalist capacity with exposure to chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, microbiology, and blood bank. Candidates should be comfortable supporting emergency room activity, transfusion needs, and inpatient testing volumes during overnight operations. This opportunity is based within a well-established 355-bed acute care medical center that provides a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services.

Responsibilities
Perform routine and moderately complex laboratory testing across chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, microbiology, and blood bank departments
Analyze, verify, and report accurate patient test results in accordance with established laboratory procedures and quality standards
Conduct instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and quality control procedures to ensure optimal laboratory performance
Support emergency department, inpatient, and urgent testing needs during overnight hospital operations
Monitor and maintain laboratory inventory, supplies, and overall testing readiness throughout each shift
Assist with blood bank operations, including transfusion support and urgent specimen processing as needed
Adhere to all laboratory safety guidelines, regulatory requirements, and infection prevention protocols
Collaborate effectively with laboratory personnel, physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures
Contribute to a positive, dependable, and team-oriented laboratory environment
Requirements
Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific field required
MLT certification through ASCP or AMT preferred
Recent graduates are encouraged to apply
Previous experience in an acute care hospital laboratory setting preferred
Strong generalist laboratory experience preferred
Experience in microbiology and/or blood bank highly preferred
Familiarity with Cerner Laboratory Information System (LIS) preferred
Experience working with Siemens Atellica chemistry analyzers is a plus
Knowledge of Beckman Coulter DX hematology systems preferred
Exposure to Sysmex coagulation analyzers beneficial
Experience with Iris urinalysis systems helpful
Familiarity with BioFire and Cepheid microbiology platforms preferred
Experience using VITEK microbiology instrumentation is a plus
Knowledge of automated blood bank systems beneficial
Additional Information
Full Time Nights
12-hour shifts: 5:00 PM – 5:30 AM
Rotating schedule with every third weekend requirement
Six-week scheduling blocks
Additional overtime opportunities available based on department needs
