Job Summary
Homeland Talent Solutions has partnered with a respected and growing healthcare system to hire a dependable and technically skilled Medical Lab Scientist (MLS/CLS) for a full-time night shift opportunity within a busy acute care hospital laboratory. This Medical Lab Scientist position offers the chance to join a well-established laboratory supporting a 355-bed medical center that provides a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services.

As a Medical Lab Scientist (MLS/CLS), you will perform complex laboratory testing and analysis that supports patient diagnosis, treatment, and clinical decision-making across multiple hospital departments. Working in a true generalist environment, you will gain exposure to chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, microbiology, and blood bank while supporting emergency department, inpatient, and transfusion-related testing needs during overnight operations. The Medical Lab Scientist will play an important role in maintaining laboratory quality standards, troubleshooting instrumentation, supporting quality initiatives, and ensuring accurate and timely test results that contribute to exceptional patient care. Responsibilities
  • Perform complex laboratory testing across multiple disciplines, including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, microbiology, and blood bank
  • Analyze, verify, and report accurate patient test results in compliance with laboratory procedures and quality standards
  • Conduct instrument maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and quality control activities
  • Support emergency department, inpatient, and transfusion-related testing needs during overnight operations
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient testing, quality control records, and laboratory procedures
  • Review quality control data and document corrective actions when necessary
  • Perform preventive maintenance on laboratory instrumentation as assigned
  • Assist with blood bank operations and urgent transfusion support as needed
  • Collect, prepare, and submit specimens to reference laboratories according to established procedures
  • Review, update, and maintain laboratory policies, procedures, and documentation
  • Provide training and support to students, new employees, and laboratory staff as needed
  • Monitor laboratory inventory levels and communicate supply shortages appropriately
  • Adhere to all laboratory safety, regulatory, HIPAA, infection prevention, and compliance standards
  • Collaborate effectively with laboratory personnel, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare team members
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented laboratory culture focused on quality patient care


Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), Medical Technology, or a related scientific field preferred
  • ASCP certification or eligibility to obtain certification required
  • Generalist laboratory experience preferred
  • Previous experience working in an acute care hospital laboratory environment preferred
  • Experience in microbiology and/or blood bank highly preferred
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced laboratory setting
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and accuracy
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills

Additional Information
  • Full Time Nights
  • 12-hour shifts: 5:00 PM – 5:30 AM
  • Rotating schedule with every third weekend requirement
  • Six-week scheduling blocks
  • Rotating holidays required
  • Additional overtime opportunities available based on department needs
